THE NORTHERN SAMOYED SOCIETY
The Northern Samoyed
Society is one of four Samoyed Clubs in the UK.
The Northern Samoyed
Society was founded in 1962 by a number of Samoyed owners who were interesting
in furthering the breed in the North of England.
Since those early
days, membership has grown considerably and whilst we still have the same
title, we are pleased to include Members, not only from the UK but from all
parts of the Globe.
Membership is open to
all and our aim is to further the interest of the Samoyed Breed and maintain
the established standard for the breed being mindful of health, welfare and
soundness.
We are fully committed
to providing advice and support to both our members and aspiring judges.
The Society is now
well known for the annual Samoyed of the Year event which is held in November.
The idea for this event came about in 1994. At that time, the UK Kennel Club
was considering removing Challenge Certificates (Championship Status) from
certain Clubs, the Northern Samoyed Society included.
Members of the NSS
fought back by flooding the Kennel Club with letters of protest and pledging
support for the Society. Thus the idea of the Contest in conjunction with a
Dinner Dance was conceived in order to raise the profile of the Society.
Accordingly, the first
event was held in 1995 and two years later we added a Puppy of the Year
contest. We are happy to report that the Kennel Club then reviewed the
situation and the NSS was reprieved from loosing its Challenge Certificates.
This year will be our
14th year of running this event and to date we have had secret
judges flown in from Slovakia, Canada, Italy, USA, New Zealand, Denmark,
Netherlands, France, Australia and Finland. It has become the highlight of the
Samoyed calendar in the UK.
Representatives of the
Northern Samoyed Society were present at the first World Samoyed Meeting in
Italy in 2000.
We are proud that the
Northern Samoyed Society has once more led the way by officially supporting the
Second World Samoyed Meeting.
Membership:
Overseas Membership £10 or 10 Euros. Membership forms can be obtained
from the Northern
Samoyed
Society stand at the meeting.

THE SAMOYED CLUB OF AMERICA
In 1906, Princess de
Montyglyon registered the American Kennel Clubs (AKC) first recognized
Samoyed. He was a gift from Grand Duke
Nicholas (brother to the Czar) and was named Russian Ch. Mouston of
Argenteau. Coincidently, Mouston went on
to become the first United States champion of record. Between 1906 and 1920, 40 Samoyeds were
registered with AKC. Fifteen came from
England with well-authenticated English pedigrees, 2 came from China, 3 came from Russia
and 1 came from France. Obviously, the
English imports made, by far, the deepest impact on the Samoyed in the United
States.
The Samoyed Club of
America (SCA) was chartered on February 14, 1923 and was accepted for AKC
membership on May 15 of that year. At
that point, there were less than 300 Samoyeds in the United States, and those
were primarily in 5 important breeding kennels.
Since that modest beginning, the SCA has grown to its present size of
approximately 1,600 members. It is a
strong and well respected national organization of Samoyed owners, breeders and
exhibitors, dedicated to preserving, protecting and advancing the interests of
the Samoyed breed.
One of the main
purposes of the SCA is to do all in its power to protect and advance the
interests of the Breed and bring it to perfection according to the written
standard. As the Parent Club of the
Breed, the SCA is the guardian of the Samoyed Standard. Any changes in that standard must be approved
by SCAs membership. In addition, the
SCA takes an active role in educating those interested in the breed, from the
owner of the first puppy to AKC judges.

To that end, the SCA
has created the Samoyed Health Foundation whose purpose is to ensure our
breeds good health. They have funded a
number of research projects over the years to learn more about the causes of
canine illness and help protect the future health of our Breed. Thanks to Samoyed Health Foundation and its
financial help Dr. Lorna Kennedy could come and give speech at the 2-nd World Samoyed
Meeting.
The SCA is also
supported by a regional network of approximately 20 local Samoyed clubs who, in
turn, promote SCAs goals on a local level.
The local clubs also support the very necessary work of Samoyed rescue,
which SCA coordinates on a national level.
The SCA also publishes an award winning quarterly magazine called the
SCA Bulletin which includes articles detailing club business and allows its
member to advertise about their dogs.
The SCA holds one specialty show a year, commonly know as The
National. Specialties are limited
contests featuring just one breed. The
local clubs have smaller specialties as well.
However, the SCA National boasts of annual entries of approximately
1,000 and is the largest annual Samoyed show held in the world. The SCA National includes herding, obedience,
agility and weight pulling in addition to the traditional conformation
competition. It is a very special
Samoyed event.

NATIONAL SAMOYED COUNCIL AUSTRALIA
The National Samoyed
Council Australia incorporates the 4 Australian State Samoyed Clubs.
Each Samoyed Club is
affiliated with their own State Body which are affiliated with the Australian
National Kennel Council.
The National Samoyed
Council Australia (NSCA) was formed in July1988.
Currently the 4
Samoyed Clubs affiliated with the ANKC are members of this Council.
There are currently
Samoyed Clubs in Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia. The
Australian Capital Territory had a Samoyed Club for a number of years but due
to the very small number of members, did not continue as a Club. A National
Samoyed Championship Show is conducted by one of the member clubs every 3 years
which rotates between the Councils existing 4 member Clubs.
Each State Club
conducts their own Championship Show each year and Samoyed exhibitors travel
many kilometres to exhibit in these shows.
The main activities
members participate in are: Conformation Showing,
Obedience-Agility, Herding, Weight Pull, Sled
Runs.
All Samoyed Clubs
conduct Sled Runs at various venues within their State
which are very popular with the general public and generate funds for the
Clubs. Most popular are those conducted at Christmas time.
There are also 4
States/Territories in Australia which do not have an active Samoyed Club, but
in most of those States there are enthusiasts who regularly participate at
Conformation Shows and other related activities. In Western Australia there are
only a few enthusiasts involved in conformation. The Northern Territory has no
Samoyed exhibitors. Tasmania has a group of Samoyed fans, but not enough to
form a Club, but these Samoyed Owners are very active at conformation Shows and
now some are participating in Herding.

The New South Wales Samoyed Club
The New
South Wales Samoyed Club commenced in 1959 following the ANKC decision that
breed specific clubs must carry the name of the State
in which they were founded. The Samoyed Club of Australia was disbanded and
each State formed their own Samoyed Club.Members participate in Conformation
Shows, Obedience, Weight Pull, Sled Racing and Herding.
The NSW
Samoyed Club has operated a Hip Dysplasia X Ray Register since 1966.
www.nswsamoyedclub.com

The Samoyed Club of Queensland was formed in 1967. Club membership grew
quickly with enthusiastic and energetic members working
hard to make it a success. The first Show was held in conjunction with an All
Breeds Show and then eventually a Samoyed Club Show was permitted by the CCCQ.
A Club Sled has been in action for many years raising many thousands of dollars
for the Club through members taking Santa Claus to various locations to amuse
and entertain the public. The Queensland Samoyed Club will be conducting their
first National Samoyed Show in 2010.

The Samoyed Club of Victoria is the oldest Samoyed Club in Australia
being formed as a Samoyed Social Club in the 1930s and then becoming
affiliated in 1944, the same year the first Championship Show was held. It
became the Samoyed Club of Australia for a few years as there were so few
Samoyeds in Australia, but reverted back to Victoria as
other States grew in number which allowed them to form their own Clubs.
Sled Runs
are a large part of the Club activities, with a large Club Sled which is very
active at Christmas time with a dedicated band of volunteers.
www.samoyedclubvictoria.com

The Samoyed Club of South Australia was formed in 1960. Although their
membership is small in numbers, they are very active in Conformation,
Obedience, Weight Pull, Sled Racing. Due to their submission to the ANKC,
Samoyeds are now one of the breeds eligible to participate in Herding Trials
Australia wide.
The South
Australian Samoyed Club has a Club Sled which visits many locations and takes
Santa Claus to meet and greet many happy children and adults all around
Adelaide.

THE BELGIAN SAMOYED ASSOCIATION
The Belgian Samoyed
Association is a relatively young club, founded in may 1998, so barely 11 years
ago!
After 3 years the
association started the procedure for certification as an official breed club
with the Royal Belgian Kennel Club Saint Hubert. This requires that the club
should have at least 50 members, of whom at least half should own a dog of the
breed, and that there should be at least 30 pups born during 3 subsequent
years. In fact, the BSA was successful in satisfying these requirements, and
was officially certified in 2006.
The aim of the BSA is
to bring lovers and breeders of the Samoyed together, and to stimulate ethical
breeding and education of best quality dogs. Members are commonly fond of
walking and playing with their dogs, but also they do participate successfully
in national and international shows.
The BSA organises 9
activities per year, namely 7 walks of which 6 in Belgium, including a weekend
trip along the North Sea beach. One walk is organised in Holland. The program
also includes a single day game-without-frontiers, with the dogs, of course.
Finally the BSA
organises a yearly Club show with CAC.
The judge of this show is alternatively a breed specialist from abroad
or one from Belgium.
Today the BSA has a
membership of over 100 families, of whom about half live in Belgium, and the
other half are from the Netherlands, from France and from Germany.
Four times a year the
BSA publishes a Club magazine in 2 languages (Dutch and French), plus a special
issue after the Club show, containing photographs of all participants and the
results obtained. In fact, the number of participants to the Club show is
commonly around 60, which is remarkably high for a rare breed in a small
country!
In order to encourage
quality breeding, the BSA encourages its members to have the hips and eyes
assessed before initiating a breeding program. This recommendation can, alas,
not formally be imposed by the BSA, since it belongs to the prerogatives of the
National Kennel Club to do so. All dogs and bitches used in reproduction need
to be DNA-identified, which is mandatory for obtaining the official Belgian
pedigree.
We are pleased and
honoured to have the opportunity to present our association to you, and like to
thank the organisers for this. We also like to show some pictures of our best
Samoyeds. In doing so, we wish to express our profound gratitude to the top
European breeders who have done us the favour of helping with our breeding.
These long-term breeders have given us the opportunity of building up a fine
collection of healthy, lovely and top quality Samoyeds in our country.
THE SAMOYED BREED ASSOCIATION
OF ESTONIA
The Samoyed Breed association (EST) was
founded in Estonia July 2006. During that time the Estonian Kennel union had
registered about 50 Samoyeds, there were 3 kennels who breed Samoyeds and 6
broods.
The EST was founded by 6 people, 5 of them
formed the board. Among the founding members there were 3 who were owners of an
active Samoyed kennel. The first chairman of the board was the owner of the
kennel Samite Aili Piirkivi. At the moment the EST has 153 members, more than
half of the Samoyed owners in Estonia. This summer a new board was elected,
cause one boards duty time is 3 years. A statute has been accepted and
corrected. There were also established the breeding rules. The EST arranges
several competitions and traditional events. Traditional events are summer- and
winter days and hiking twice in one year, in the spring and in autumn. The
summer days last for 2 days, winter days 1 day. 6-10 kilometers long hikes take
place in different places in Estonia every time. We have also arranged several
trainings on taking pictures of your dog, dogs handling, dogs coat maintenance
and on dogs health. A poll that went through within our members showed that
most of the members find that 4-6 events per year is enough. On Sundays there
are meetings in a certain time, so that the dogs could play with each other.
Since his second active year the EST picks
the best show dog of the year. In addition there are awards for the best male
dog, female and junior. The best will show with the points won in the shows
with different levels. For this purpose the EST has created regulations, but
it would take too long to explain.
In February of the current year the EST
arranged their first special show for Samoyeds. The judge was Matti Tuominen
from Finland. Half hundred Samoyeds participated, mostly from Estonia, but also
from Russia , Latvia and Finland. At the moment the arrangements for the next
years show are in progress. You are welcome!
The EST has its own homepage www.samojeed.ee. On our homepage there are
regular information about breeder dogs and broods, current information about
the EST and some educational articles. From the homepage you can also have
access to the forum of the Samoyed owners of Estonia.
The EST has had a lot of help from the
importer of Royal Canin, who has presented the awards for the winners of the
competitions.
According to the poll that went through our
members most of them expect equally educational training and lectures about
dogs, but also fun social activity with the dogs.
We hope that we have achieved a reasonable
balance between the events, which are more targeted to owners who are more
interested in dog shows and breeding, like the years best show Samoyed,
special show, and the events that are targeted to those who want to spend good
time, like the summer- and winter days, hikes.

THE IRISH SAMOYED CLUB
The Irish Kennel Club
was formed in January 1922. Samoyeds were scheduled for the first time on the
19th March 1934 with five exhibitors which included two from the UK. The first
breed Champion listed in IKC records in 1943 was Ivor of Kobe owned by Miss P.
Kelly.
Mrs. Lily Rogers who
owned the very successful Felfenfest Kennel (1950- 1960) was the first Irish
exhibitor to become heavily involved in breeding and exhibiting Samoyeds.
In 1972 the Irish
Samoyed Club was founded by Mr. Jimmy Hyland, he owned the Snowscape Kennels.
He was totally committed to the breed. He retired to the Glen of Imaal in
County Wicklow and the Breed Championship Show was held there on the 1st
weekend in June each year. It was in a
most picturesque setting. His wife Rita
excelled in Catering, the atmosphere was lovely. It was like a garden party. Everyone helped and the encouragement for
new-comers was unbelievable. Club
Membership was at its highest and show entries were in numbers that can only be
dreamt about today. Jimmy continued as
Club Secretary until 2001 even though he was in very poor health and passed
away shortly afterwards.
The Club owes a great
debt to him for all his years of service to the breed.
Looking back it was a
different era. The emphasis was not on winning but enjoying your dog. We had no breed record holders. Dogs were
not endlessly campaigned and consequently awards were more evenly distributed
this resulted in many new-comers to the show scene.
The I.K.C. changed to
full FCI membership in 2007, this did not suit our breed as our stock was bred
to the UK standard and continental judges favoured a taller Samoyed. This has
had a detrimental effect on our numbers in the show ring which is presently
quiet low. It will take some time and a careful breeding programme to make the
necessary adjustment.
We have very good
quality stock and dedicated breeders and exhibitors. Our Samoyeds are in good
hands and we look forward to a bright future for our Club.

THE SAMOYED ASSOCIATION OF FINLAND (SAF)
Suomen
Samojedinkoirayhdistys ry (SAMY)
The official breed
club for Samoyeds in Finland
The Samoyed
Association of Finland was established in 1966 and was approved as the official
breed club by the Finnish Kennel Club in 1968.
We have approximately
860 members in SAF.
The main goal of the
Association is to take care of the breeding of Samoyeds in Finland. The
Association has an active breeding committee, ready to give advice to people
thinking of breeding with their Samoyed, and ready to give assistance and
advice to prospective buyers of a Samoyed.
The main link between
the members is the membership bulletin Valkoturkki which we publish four issues
per year.
The Association also
hosts the Samoyed Breed Show every year. Because there are members all over the
country, the location of the show varies in different parts of the country too.
The Association also hosts annual winter and summer events where Samoyed owners
can meet each other. The regional clubs, for their part, regularly host
sledding and training activities for Samoyed owners.

THE SAMOYED CLUB OF CZECH
REUBLIC
History
The first ever Samoyed
was imported to the Czech Republic from the US in the seventies by a famous
Czech Olympic winner in gymnastics Eva Boskov. The dog called Igor was born
on 17. 09. 1967. The Samoyed Club of Czech Republic was established in 1992.
The Samoyed Club is a member of CMKU (Czech-Moravian Kynology Union), fulfills
all F.C.I. regulations, that are binding fot the club through CMKU.
The breeding of Samoyeds is regulated in the Czech Republic every dog and
bitch must take part in breeding approval, only then can be used for breeding.
FCI Pedigrees are issued only to descendants of those who are allowed for breeding,
only to descendants of dogs and bitches approved for breeding.A hip X-Ray examination must be submitted for
breeding approval and can be performed only on dogs and bitches of one year of
age and older.
Events
The Samoyed Club
members and their dogs take part in many events. These are mainly shows and
sport events. Some members very succesfully practise mushing even in
extremely difficult winter long distance races. Dogtrekking, bikejring and
skijring are also very popular. Club members are regular participants of dog shows throughout Europe. Many members of
the Samoyed Club are Czech, Slovak, Polish and Austrian Champions. Some
Samoyeds are proud holder of Interchampion title. Some show Champions and Interchampions are even
very succesful in mushing.
A Working Class was
open for Samoyeds this year. It is possible to obtain a F.C.I. Certificate
approved by the clubs and our Samoyeds can compete at European dog shows in
Working Class.
The Club also issues
titles like Club Work Champion and Club
Champion.
Canisteraphy
Samoyeds are
fantasticaly suited for Canistherapy, which
is very popular amongst the Club members. One of the founders of the Samoyed
Club was a pioneer in creating a healing method called positioning. She
worked specificaly with Samoyeds. Positioning is very exhausting for the dog.
A child lies on a pad with his head on a pillow. The dog lies down on its side
and the childs legs are rested on the dogs back in such a way that his knee
holes are placed directly on the dogs back. The child is covered with a
blanket. Only the dogs head remains uncovered. The dogs lies in this position
for 15 to 20 minutes and is carefully observed the whole time. The whole
process is based on voluntarity. As soon as the dog becomes tired, the therapy
is over. The positioning with the Samoyeds significantly increases the clients
pfysical condition.
Some Samoyeds hold a
Canistherapy Dog/Bitch Award, their owners visit children centers, medical
institutions, senior homes where they give out happiness and support their
clients will for life.
The Samoyed Club is a
voluntary association of Samoyed breeding and most of all loving people who
care about the Samoyeds to be healthy, strong, tenacious and self-confident
dogs with a loving character and a never-fading smile.
THE SAMOYED CLUB OF SLOVAKIA
In October 2006 the
independent Samoyed Club of Slovakia was founded by a group of enthusiasts as a
Club for Samoyed breeders, owners and fanciers.
Our goals are simple: to promote our breed in Slovakia, to help Samoyed owners and breeders, to mantain our breed healthy and happy, to work out our Samoyeds and keep them multi-purpose dogs, to organize 2 Annual Club and Specialty Show, to issue Club Magazne, to organize different activities for
Samoyed owners and general public as well, to cooperate with different Samoyed Clubs, to rescue Samoyeds in need.
SAMOYEDS IN SLOVAKIA
Situated in the
central Europe surrounded by beautiful mountain ranges Slovak republic provides
excellent possibility to keep such a sport loving breed as a Samoyed is. The
very first Samoyeds were imported to Slovakia in 1990 from Czech Republic, and
the very first litter occured in September 1993. Those first breeders were
great enthusiast of this wonderfull and rare breed and in those very first
years there were about 60 puppies registered every year.

-
Samoyeds
in Slovakia are widely used in different forms of canisteraphy or dog teraphy. "Visiting Pets",
"Therapy Dogs", "Therapy Pets" are just some of the names
given to describe programs in which animals help people just by visiting them.
As participation in such programs in Slovakia grows, so do the activities of
our Club. We organize presentations and mental testing for Samoyeds and thein
owners. Samoyeds are mostly used in "Animal Assisted Therapy" and they are great
for these kinds of activities, mainly because of thein loving nature and
non-agressiveness. In Slovakia, first of all they must pass the test of character,
then they obtain Certificate of Canistherapy. Of course, their owner/handler
must be a member of an organization concerning this kind of therapy. Then the
Team (Sammy + handler) can visit different institutions, and help people in
need.
-
Samoyeds
are great at different sports. We
think Samoyed should maintain a working dog, we try to keep his working
abilities. Thats why we organize different sports competitions and
presentations for our members. Our members compete in
these sports: agility, obedience, dog dancing, sledding carts, scooter,
racing, bikejoring, canicross.
-

Samoyed Yearbook is issued once per annum and you can find all Show
results, Lists of Champions, Stud Dogs there.
-
The SCS Health Foundation. The Health foundation of Humoresque Snowy Xamba

expensive medical treatment or surgeries of their Samoyeds. We have 2 Club
Veterinarians, who are available 24/7 for the Members. The Health Foundation
will also organize health seminars and presentations.
-
